Puzzle Activity Tracking

Every puzzle you attempt in Pawn au Chocolat is recorded in a local activity database, so your history, streaks, and statistics are preserved across sessions. The Activity page shows a calendar heatmap of your daily progress, a monthly breakdown, and per-database statistics so you can see exactly how you're improving over time.

Six completion states

Unlike simple “solved / not solved” tracking, Pawn au Chocolat distinguishes between the different ways you might reach a solution. Each puzzle gets one of six states, giving you an honest picture of how well you actually did:

Correct

Clean first-try solve with no hints, no wrong moves, and no peeking at the solution. The gold standard.

Solved with hint

You needed a nudge to find the right move. Still counts as a solve, but marked separately so you can tell the difference.

Solved after retry

You made a wrong move, tried again (or reset), and eventually solved it. The mistake is remembered even if you fix it.

Solution viewed

You clicked “View Solution” to see the answer. Great for learning, but doesn't count as an unaided solve.

Incorrect

You made a wrong move and moved on without retrying. The only state that counts against your success rate.

Incomplete

The puzzle is open but you haven't finished it yet. Not recorded in activity until it reaches a terminal state.

The Activity page

Click the calendar icon in the sidebar to open the Activity page. If you've just started solving puzzles, you'll see an empty state; once you have data, the page shows four sections:

Overall statistics

Total solved, success rate, average rating of solved puzzles, active days, current streak, and longest streak. The current streak resets whenever you skip a day.

Calendar heatmap

A GitHub-style grid showing the last 12 months of activity. Each cell represents one day, coloured by how many puzzles you solved (darker = more). Click any cell to see exactly which puzzles you attempted that day.

Monthly overview

A stacked bar chart showing solves and failures day-by-day for the current month. Navigate forward and back through months to see trends over time.

Database breakdown

See which puzzle databases you've been training with and how well you're performing on each. Useful for deciding which collection to focus on next.

Streaks and motivation

Current streak

Days in a row with at least one puzzle solved. A streak ends when you skip a full day (based on your local timezone). The longest streak is saved separately, so a broken streak doesn't erase your personal best.

How attempts are stored

Activity data is kept in a local SQLite database at <AppData>/activity/puzzle_activity.db3. Nothing is sent over the network — your training history is yours alone and works completely offline.

Each attempt records the puzzle ID, the database it came from, the rating, the final completion state, and the timestamp. When you retry a puzzle and change its result (for example, from incorrect to solved-after-retry), the existing entry is updated rather than a new one being added — so your statistics reflect the final outcome, not the initial mistake.

Renaming or deleting a puzzle database keeps your activity history in sync: renamed databases show up with their new name, and deleted databases are removed from the breakdown.
