Analysis Options
Reverse Analysis
This is the recommended default. The engine analyses from the end of the game to the beginning, leveraging its memory of previously analysed positions. This approach produces more accurate evaluations as the engine can use transposition table information.
Annotate Novelties
When enabled, the first position that is not found in the reference database will have a comment added indicating it as a novelty. This helps identify where games deviate from established theory.
Move Annotation System
The analysis system uses three primary measurements to classify moves:
- Win percentage loss from the position
- Whether the move is the only sound option
- Sacrifice identification
| Symbol | Name | Criteria |
|---|---|---|
| !! | Brilliant | Sacrifice that is the only sound move |
| ! | Good | Only sound move punishing opponent error |
| !? | Interesting | Sacrifice that is not the sole sound move |
| ?! | Dubious | 5-10% win percentage loss |
| ? | Mistake | 10-20% win percentage loss |
| ?? | Blunder | 20-100% win percentage loss |
Win Percentage Calculation
The win percentage is derived from the engine evaluation using the following formula (sourced from Lichess):
Sound Move Evaluation
The engine always runs with MultiPV set to 2 to determine if the best move is also the only sound move. This helps identify critical moments where only one move maintains equality or an advantage.
